||||
Dear parents and students,

The Education Bureau announced on 10 July that all schools in Hong Kong would commence their summer holiday early. Since class resumption, P.4-P.6 students returned to school for only 23 days, and P.1-P.3 students even returned for only for 18 days. As not many students returned to school, and there was a great number of cross-border students and students who chose to stay at home, therefore our school had diligently taught these students through afternoon Microsoft Teams online classes in order for them to continue learning.
(https://www.storylineonline.net/books/catching-the-moon-the-story-of-a-young-girls-baseball-dream/)
The epidemic in Hong Kong is becoming more critical with each passing day. The third wave of the coronavirus disease continues to spread and wreak havoc in Hong Kong. Parents and students should stay at home, don’t go out so much, always maintain personal hygiene to prevent being infected. I understand that staying at home all day must be so boring, but we need to learn to seek joy amid hardship. Plus, this would be a good chance to strengthen our willpower. There are various free learning resources online, especially English stories. I recommend that everyone could “read” more books, “listen” to more books, and “read aloud” more books this summer holiday. Let me take this chance to announce in advance: next year, our school will collaborate with many organisations to present drama activities, including Hong Kong Community College, theatrical companies, the Education Bureau, etc. We are very honored being able to invite the School-based Curriculum Development Team (English) to assist the school this coming year. The person in charge, Ms. FUNG has recommended some fascinating and meaningful websites for us to read more English stories. I also want to take this opportunity to share a touching story from the website: a little girl called Marcenia fought for her dream to become a professional football player; she knew that she only had a hundred to one shot at success but she still carried on. When the whole world did not support her, she still strove against all criticism, she worked even harder and was incredibly determined to prove to the world that she is capable of success. Finally, step by step, her dream came true. Although it was an arduous journey, she had no regrets. I hope that we can all focus on our goals like Marcenia and have a clear conscience in life.
The short notice before the summer holiday caused our arrangements to be unsatisfactory, therefore, we immediately had a wide array of emergency meetings to handle the aftermath. Although students cannot return to school, we will continue using Microsoft Teams to teach students through online lessons. After careful consideration, we have decided to make arrangements for parents to come pick up students’ belongings in turn. When we saw parents and students, we greeted each other warmly, caught up with each other and cheered for each other. Let’s work hard together to fight the virus! Our honorary president and school manager, Mr. CHEUNG Hung-Chiu, Stewart donated some materials to the family in need. They asked me to convey their gratitude to Mr. CHEUNG and they feel warm and concerned. Thank you very much for his care and support.
Over these two years, we have strongly promoted the“Parents-Also-Appreciate-Teachers Drive”. The aim of the Drive is to allow parents to show their appreciation towards the school and teachers using words. As teachers are at the frontline, while I am fulfilling the school’s administration work, they really need all of our support and encouragement. Yet the praise that I receive from parents makes me feel elated, and at the same time, it is a recognition for me and our school. Thus, I feel so grateful for your praise and I promise that I will carry on striving for excellence.

The epidemic is becoming more serious, and the government has tightened the prohibition on group gathering to two people and restaurants have a “no dine-in” restriction. Everyone aren’t used to the anti-epidemic practices. Having to wear a mask daily is tough, I understand that, but I am sure that these hard times will pass! Mr. Dongpo taught us that, “ Looking back over the bleak passage survived,/ The return in time /Shall not be affected by windswept rain or shine.” We need to persevere! Fighting the virus is like fighting a war. In a war, the side that can stand their ground will win. An army that is burning with righteous indignation is bound to win. Each of us is a general in this war, so only we can lead Hong Kong out of the epidemic haze. I am looking forward to our come back. Let’s cheer up!
I would like to say sorry to our P.6 graduates for not having a chance to say goodbye to you. The graduation ceremony and graduation gathering meal that were originally planned had been cancelled. A parent once said to me, “There is no “see you again” in life because every meeting is unique to that exact moment.” However, I do believe that we will see each other again, and when that day comes, you would have all come out of your cocoons and become butterflies, flying high and going far. The door of LTY will always be open for you. I wish you all have great aspirations, have a fulfilling youth and have a smooth journey.

At the end of July, I am informed by the Education Program Associate, Ms. Lam from “Parenting Headline’. The interview we did before is published. After reading it, I am touched. Our endeavor has been issued and recognized. We wish more people to know us that we have a group of teachers who have love, ideas, qualification to develop the school with their exertion and creativity. In the coming future, we are going to focus on innovation, student-oriented to design different learning activities to our students to learn. In the past, our former Principal, Mr. So had one of the slogan called ‘Experience-oriented’. Now, it is evolved to ‘Experience-oriented 2.0’ which is called “Touching Curriculum”.
